The Australian pacer, Brendan Doggett, who earned his first call-up since 2018, is now ruled out due to injury for the West Indies Tests and has been replaced by all-rounder Sean Abbott.
Brendan Doggett, who was instrumental in South Australia’s Sheffield Shield triumph after 29 years in the 2024–2025 season, got his first call-back to the Australian Test team since 2018 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 as a reserve. He was also part of the Australian squad as a reserve in the WTC Finals 2025
Doggett Out of WI Tour with Hip Injury
After not being given a chance to play in the last two series, Brendan Doggett, who was named in the squad for the West Indies tour, has now suffered a minor hip injury while playing for Durham in the County Championship. He will travel back to Australia to treat the injury. Doggett also had a decent county stint with Durham, claiming 9 wickets at an average of 33. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old has now been ruled out of the West Indies tour.

The 33-year old now gets his chance to shine in red-ball cricket. Abbott has been part of multiple Test squads in the past, most notably in the Sri Lanka series, where he was named as a replacement for the injured Josh Hazlewood but didn’t get a chance to make his debut. This series might finally see Sean Abbott make his Test debut, and his batting ability is a bonus for Australia.
Steve Smith Named in the Squad
Steve Smith, who recently injured his finger in the WTC Finals 2025 against South Africa while fielding at slips, has avoided surgery and had the injury stitched. He will be able to bat but must wear a splint. Smith’s participation remains in doubt, and his return will depend on his recovery progress.
