Indian women’s team primary seamer Renuka Singh Thakur has been out injured since January, missing important series and the WPL for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After eight months of rehabilitation, the pace bowler is set to make her return to the Indian team, confirms Indian coach Amol Muzumdar.
Renuka suffered a stress fracture that kept her away from the game for a long time. However, she has now received the green signal from the NCA and will start in the 3-match Australia ODI series. She will also feature for India in the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2026, starting on September 30th.

Renuka Singh Set to Lead India’s Pace Attack, Confirms Coach Muzumdar
Renuka has been India’s consistent wicket-taker with medium pace in ODIs, taking 35 wickets in 19 matches at an economy of 4.85, including four four-wicket hauls and a boasts best ODI figures of 5/15.
Indian head coach Amol Muzumdar officially announced her return during a press conference and backed her to lead the pace attack for the upcoming marquee tournament.
“Renuka has just joined us for this series. She was recovering and has cleared all her tests. Renuka is an important member of the team; she is the leader of the pack when it comes to medium-pace bowling. She’s been an integral part of this team. She had an injury and layoff, and now she’s back with us,” Muzumdar told reporters.

Muzumdar Confident India Will Make the Most of Australia ODI Series
Speaking further, Muzumdar expressed confidence that India will use the Australian series wisely.
“Australia has been a dominant force for many years, but we focus on our preparations. We give a lot of importance to how we prepare, plan, and execute. Our focus is internal,” Muzumdar added.

The 3-match ODI series against Australia begins on September 14, with the first two ODIs scheduled at New Chandigarh, followed by one ODI at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
India will kickstart their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on September 30 at the Guwahati International Cricket Stadium.
