India’s young batting prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal recently shared one of the funniest (and slightly awkward) moments of his early international career the time Rohit Sharma left him behind at the team hotel in Australia.
The incident happened just before the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last December, and has now gone viral after Jaiswal opened up about it on Raj Shamani’s podcast.
Jaiswal mistook arrival time for departure
Jaiswal revealed that a simple miscommunication caused him to miss the team bus in Adelaide he had mistakenly assumed the arrival time was the departure time.
“I thought the arrival time was when we were leaving, so I got confused. When I realised, it was too late. I told Rohit bhai, ‘Sir, it was a genuine mistake, I’m really sorry.’ He said it’s okay, but reminded me to be more careful next time and to ask if I’m ever unsure.”

As a result, the team bus left without him, and yes, Rohit Sharma, the captain at the time, stepped out to check what was going on, but still decided to move ahead. Jaiswal said he understood the decision and took it as a lesson.
“When I saw the bus had gone, I accepted it. I deserved it. It was my fault, and I had to own up to it.”

Rohit Sharma’s Reaction: Fair, But Funny
The logistics team later arranged a separate car to get him to the airport. Rohit, meanwhile, didn’t spare him from some friendly teasing and made him apologise to the rest of the team.
“Rohit bhai was also funny about it, in a good way. He made me apologise to everyone. I learned my lesson that day, never be late again!”

Despite the early hiccup, Jaiswal had a stellar tour, finishing as India’s second-highest run-getter, with 391 runs in 10 innings, including a century.
